I Laughed Last Night!

I laughed so much last night. It was good, so good. It had been so long since I had such a good laugh. It began when I decided to look up some caribbean poems that I loved since I was a child. My daughter helped me in my desire to recapture old memories. I felt like I was one of those secret artists, the one who always wished to appear on stage reciting some of the great West Indian poems. Here was my chance to live it. With my bedroom as an auditorium and my daughter the audience, I began, "Song of the Banana Man," by Evan Jones. Yes that poem. The one I always tried to say for every Jamaican I met, only to incorrectly recite the first verse and then stop because I did not know the whole poem. As I recited it and got to the end I emphatically articulated the words "BY GOD AND DIS BIG RIGHT HAN, YOU MUS RECOGNIZE A BANANA MAN!" We roared with laughter. A bolt of energy ran through my soul. The story of the banana man was so familiar to me. I knew Banana men, not in Jamaica, but in Dominica where I lived for a while. I must continue, I said to myself. I wanted to read more. The night continued with me reading Langston Hughes "Salvation." It was like the cherry on the cake. The story of the boy waiting to be saved, brought me so much laughter that if I had a miserable neighbour, they would either join in with me or called the cops. We lighted up with so much delight at the readings that I slept like a baby that night.

Laughter is good medicine!

Scientists are finding out that it is infectious and the sound of laughter is more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. God knew all the time that laughter is good for our soul. Proverbs 17:22 says "a merry heart doeth good like medicine." Ecclesiastes 3:4 says "there is a time for everything under the sun. A time to laugh, a time to mourn and and time to dance."

So laugh away my friend, because like Milton Berle said so well, "Laughter is an instant vacation." So today, give yourself a break and take a vacation. LAUGH!

Lead Me to the Rock that is Higher than I

The Psalmist David knew what trouble was; He had to run for his life.  Saul wanted him dead. Rage and jealousy had put Saul in a fit.  People loved David more than Saul. David made him feel small and humiliated.  David was stealing his shine and he will not have it. He wanted sweet revenge.  He had the power and the authority to do just that, so David had to run.   This story is told so often. We wonder, why Lord? Why did this happen to me? What have I done wrong? The fact is, this is life. We win some and we lose some. The comfort we have is that we can go to our God.  When we feel abused, refused or excluded we can go to him as David did.  He will be to us a strong tower a shield and our protector.  David said when he felt overwhelmed he will go to God who stands like a solid strong protective rock. A rock that is higher than him and that when life overwhelms him, he will trust in that rock. Today, Jesus is our rock and our shelter, our s...
You are Special In case you might have forgotten, I just wanted to remind you that you are one of a kind, God's chosen, fearfully and wonderfully created. It does not matter how you feel, how you look, what your circumstances are, these things do not define YOU. What defines you is who or what you think about yourself. So today, I want to encourage you to push through negative thoughts and feelings and believe the truth of your uniqueness. You are not only fearfully and wonderfully made as God said, you are also strong because He has promised to be your strength and shield. So today, I encourage you to know that you are somebody loving, kind, full of warmth, smart and beautiful. 'Your past is history' Your past is history. It does not have to determine your destiny because God himself has already determined it. So many people live and die without knowing that they are special, that they are somebody and that they are unique, important, loved, wanted and appreciated. Today ...
